What Are The Most Common Crimes Committed In Singapore?


With the often heard rhetoric of low crimes doesn’t mean no crime in Singapore, what are the most common crimes in Singapore? A total of 33,608 crimes were reported in 2015, it marks an increase in the number of crime cases reported in 2014.

1. Theft Crimes

The total number of theft cases stand at 15,645, almost half of the total crimes reported involves theft. Such theft of properties include wallet to items such as casino chips amounting to $900,000. With such a large proportion of crimes involving theft, it is no wonder that we are always reminded not to keep our personal belongings unattended!

2. Commercial Crimes

Singapore prides herself as South East Asia’s financial centre. No doubt, commercial crimes are also popular here with numerous transactions occurring on a daily basis. Such crimes accounted for 8,329 of the total crimes reported in 2015. Fraudulent behaviour occurs daily in the financial sector but fear not, measures are in place to ensure that your money in the bank are always kept safe!

3. Crimes against Persons

Crimes against persons refer to criminal offences which cause bodily harm or offences committed against the will of an individual. Such crimes include molestation, causing grievous hurt and using criminal force to restraint an individual. Crimes against persons totalled 4,130 in 2015. Alarming as it seems, it is not virtually impossible for you to be attacked! Although the overall crime rate in Singapore has risen, it still remains as one of safest country in the world. Stay safe!
